More than 30 years a large number of ship types, designed by the DOS «VYMPEL», comprises high-speed transport and special purpose air cushion ships with sidewalls (SESs), i.e. the ships the major part of the weight of which is supported by an air cushion and the rest - by partially submerged hulls, i.e. sidewalls.

Shipyards of Russia, by projects of DOS «VYMPEL», built, in total, more than 200 such ships.

Among them there are passenger motor ships type «Barguzin» for large likes and water basins, two of them navigate on the like Baikal. There are under construction a version of SESs «Barguzin», a high-comfort excursion ship «Olkhon», a sea-going passenger vessel «Altair».

It was prepared a technical proposal of a high-speed passenger/care ferry for 370 persons and 45 cars.

For small rivers, on the basis of «VYMPEL»'s projects, it was built in large series ships type «Zarnitsa», the subsequent development of which is a more perfect SESs type «Luch» and then «Luch-2».

On the basis of ship type «Orion», developed by DOS «VYMPEL», it was constructed a forest fire-fighting motor vessel «Plamya» intended to convey rapidly wheel machinery to places of forest fire.

The DOS is in possession of the largest SESs for 1975, i.e. a 150 t experimental boat KVP-11, representing the half-full scale model of a large displacement ship.

During the last years the DOS accumulated experience also of the development of air cushion amphibian technical facilities. In 1991 it was developed a project and then was built an air cushion ice-breaking platform type «Toros-1», being coupled with a pushing ship, it is capable to break ice of up to 1 m in thickness.
