In 2002, Vympel developed for Kazakh National Maritime Shipping Company «Kazmortransflot»
the enlarged classification project of a sea-going tanker about 1200 dwt,

In 2000-2001, on the order from OOO «V.F.Tanker», Vympel developed the project of converting
the leading section of the combined dry cargo motor vessel type "Volzhsky" in a tanker for carrying residual fuel oil.
The conversion of 9 vessels was performed at 4 shipyards: 5 units in N. Novgorod, 2 units in Petrozavodsk,
1 unit in Navashino and 1 unit in Rostov-on-Don.
The DOS «VYMPEL» is occupied with the design of tankers of different classes within more than 40 years. The first sea-going tanker of 4 700 t deadweight was built in 1954. Within a period till 1970, 37 ships of this class were built at OKA shipyard, Navashino, in Russia and Varna shipyard in Bulgaria.
In 1970 - 1990, more than 30 refueling tankers of 500 t deadweight were built at Alexandria shipyard in Egypt, Kherson shipyard in Ukraine and Blagoveshchensk shipyard in Russia in compliance with the project prepared by DOS «VYMPEL»
In 1994 the Design Office developed a design of a sea-going tanker - oil product carrier of 5 215 t deadweight. The ship has a class of Lloyd's Register. The first tanker was built in 1995, the second - in 1997 at Volgograd shipyard. The first ships shown theirselves to be good in operation. The construction of tankers of this class is still in progress.
In 1997, at the order from RAO «GAZPROM», the DOS «VYMPEL» worked out a design of a sea-going bunkering tanker of about 3200 t deadweight. The first ships of this type are under construction at Astrakhan shipbuilding plant. These ships have a non-restricted sailing area at sea and are adapted for crossing inland waterways.

The DOS «VYMPEL», together with «ROSSCAN SHIPPING AB», realized the idea of a pushed sea-going convoy intended for through carriage of oil products from inland areas of Russia directly to foreign ports of the Baltic Sea. On the basis of the documentation developed by DOS «VYMPEL», «OKA» shipyard, Navashino, built 2 barges of 4730 t each. The experience of operation of such convoys demonstrated advantages of this concept and validity of adopted technical solutions.
